Solid Fuel Merchants Ireland (SFMI) today announces a strategic partnership with Homefire Ireland, a leading distributor of high-quality, sustainable smokeless fuels. This collaboration aims to ensure the availability of affordable, reliable, and cleaner heating solutions to households and businesses across Ireland, supporting the country’s transition to a low-emissions future.

Homefire Ireland, established in 2012 and renowned for its market-leading Ecoal product, has consistently demonstrated a robust commitment to sustainability, innovation, and quality. The partnership will leverage Homefire’s expertise in smokeless fuels and kiln-dried hardwood logs, sourced sustainably and designed to reduce emissions significantly compared to traditional coal.

Niall McGuinness, Managing Director of Homefire Ireland, said: “At Homefire, we are dedicated to supplying the very best smokeless fuel available in Ireland. Our collaboration with SFMI allows us to further enhance the sustainability of heating solutions available to households and businesses nationwide, ensuring that the transition to cleaner fuels is both practical and accessible. Our ultimate ambition remains clear: to create a 100% sustainable briquette from organic waste streams, reinforcing our commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship.”

SFMI’s Chairperson, Colin Ahern, emphasised the importance of the partnership for rural Ireland: “This partnership is about ensuring fairness and practicality in Ireland’s energy transition. Rural homes still heavily depend on solid fuels due to limited alternatives.

By partnering with Homefire Ireland, we can guarantee a sustainable, compliant, and economically viable fuel supply for these communities. This aligns with our advocacy for balanced regulation and just transition policies, protecting both rural livelihoods and the environment.”

The collaboration coincides with SFMI’s ongoing campaign to promote cleaner, compliant fuels and tackle illegal imports that undermine environmental progress and compliant businesses. The shared objective of both organisations is to empower consumers with sustainable choices, maintain national energy security, and advocate for fair regulation and enforcement across the industry.
